WELCOME TO OSHAWA TOASTMASTERS

We thank you for taking a look at Oshawa Toastmasters and trust that you will find us as a friendly bunch of individuals interested in enjoying ourselves and improving our ability to get up and speak in public. We come from all walks of life, occupations, and for different reasons.
You are most welcome to take a look.

So that you know what to expect and to understand what is taking place we have outlined a typical evenings meeting for you.

Business Section
This section teaches us correct Parliamentary Procedure. Of course we are not Parliamentarians but it does provide an opportunity to hone our debating skills and to develop clear and concise ideas and thoughts. Not all topics are serious, as you will no doubt come to see.

Table Topics
Impromptu speaking is a learned skill that comes from practise and well worth learning. In Table Topics a topic is selected for members. They have no prior knowledge of the topic and have to speak on that given topic for 60 seconds. This is a great arena for gaining confidence, composure and for developing a quick thinking mind. You will be asked if you want to take part - no pressure, the decision will be yours.

Formal Speeches
We learn to enjoy speaking before an audience, finding confidence and becoming dynamic in the process, using a step-by-step guide provided by Toastmasters International. As you listen to these speeches remember that they too were like you once - guests just looking in.

Evaluations
Not only do you learn to talk at Toastmasters, you also learn to listen. Each week an evaluator is selected to listen to a specific speech and to make comment. These comments are always supportive and constructive, and you can learn as much from these evaluations as you can from actually making a speech.

Membership
This comes from a desire to achieve something - in this case the ability to better present yourself. Each week is fun and always informative. If by the end of the evening you are undecided not to worry. We are here every week and there will always be a seat vacant for you.

If you do decide to join us just chat with our Vice President of Membership, who will gladly explain the process to you at the same time as showing you all the material available with your membership pack.

Thanks for taking a look - we enjoyed having you here.
